By Dale Magnuson A common mis-conception is that prior to competition it is very important to watch what you eat and that post-event is not important. I can speak from experience. I used to eat perfect before the meet and then after the meet pig out on every bit of junk food I could get my hands on. What you do after you compete is sometimes more important then pre-event. What you eat prior to competing effects how your body builds back up. The recomendation that I have always been told is at least 1 hour prior to competition you should consume carbohydrates of some sort. Carbohydrates and fluids are depleated the most during exercise and need to be replaced to replunish the stores in the body. If you are wondering how to plan a diet for pre and post game meals, refer to the pre-game meal chart. This should give you some ideas on what to eat and what to avoid. |
